Biography

Michael Maguire is perhaps best known to theatergoers for his Broadway debut performance as Enjolras in the original Broadway company of Les Miserables, for which he won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Theatre World Award. In November, Mr. Maguire recreated this role for the 10th anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which has been broadcast nationally on PBS and featured an all star cast from around the world. In February, he performed as the guest soloist in a "Tribute to Hal Prince" at the Broward Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Mr. Maguire starred as Count Carl Magnus in the New York City Opera production of A Little Night Music, as well as the subsequent PBS "Live From Lincoln Center" production of the show. He has performed all over the United States starring in musicals such as Carousel, Brigadoon, The Desert Song, Annie Get Your Gun, Side By Side By Sondheim, 110 in the Shade, and Showboat. His recent portrayal of Jim Townsend in LA Reprise Series' production of Strike Up the Band was welcomed with rave reviews.

Mr. Maguire has performed for such distinguished companies as the Canadian Opera Company, Greater Miami Opera, Pittsburgh C.L.O. and TUTS-Houston. In New York he has been a featured soloist at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall and Alice Tully Hall. He was also a guest soloist with the London Symphony in its "Tribute to Leonard Bernstein". While in London, Mr. Maguire performed for Queen Elizabeth in the Royal Variety Show. Most recently, he was a guest soloist with the National Symphony in Washington, D.C., Israel Philharmonic (Tel Aviv), Oregon Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, San Jose Symphony, Springfield Symphony, Utah Symphony, Korean Symphony among many others, including the Varna Festival in Bulgaria and the Puerto Rico Symphony. Last summer, Mr. Maguire will return to the Israel Philharmonic for performances of BRAVO Broadway. Upcoming performances included the Seattle Symphony and National Symphony.

An accomplished actor, Mr. Maguire was featured in the critically acclaimed film Where the Day Takes You. He also appeared with Michelle Pfeiffer in Deep End of the Ocean and will be seen in the soon to be released films, Go Fish and LA Pictures. In television, he was a guest star on Quantum Leap and starred on the soap Loving. In addition to his work in musical theater, Mr. Maguire has performed extensively in lighter opera/operetta, oratorio and recital.

A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory, Mr. Maguire received his Masters Degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
