Michael L. Maguire was born on February 20, 1955, in Newsport News, Virginia. He attended the Oberlin Conservatory of music (on a scholarship), and later obtained a master’s degree in Opera at the University of Michigan School of Music. He was married to actress Marita Geraghty (they divorced in 2001), and has two daughters - Kathleen Rose and Fiona Marie.
Michael was a broker on Wall Street for a while, but then went on to sing in local productions of Broadway musicals before making his Broadway debut in 1987 as Enjolras in Les Misérables. For this performance he won a Tony Award (for best Actor (Featured Role - Musical)), a Drama Desk Award and a Theatre World Award. In 1995 he repeated the role in the 10th anniversary Dream Cast production at the Royal Albert Hall (London).
Michael has also been the star of several successful shows, like Bravo Broadway, Direct From Broadway, Strike Up the Band and Michael Maguire in Concert. He has performed with more than 120 different symphony orchestras all over the USA - but also in several other countries, including Israel and Bulgaria. In London, Michael performed for the Queen of England in The Royal Variety Show. He was also a guest soloist at the London Symphony’s Tribute to Leonard Bernstein.
