I saw The Phantom of the Opera in 2009, and while I really loved it, I wasn't all that thrilled with the Phantom, so I have been wanting to see it again. When I found out Swedish star Peter Jöback would play the part I just knew I had to go to London and see it. Also, I really wanted to see Killian Donnelly as Raoul, as he is for sure one of the most talented West End performers. I saw him as Enjolras in Les Misérables in 2010.

Last time I saw The Phantom of the Opera I didn't get to see Gareth Snook, which was a big disappointment. Luckily he still plays the part of Monsieur André! So I had three very good reasons for wanting to see The Phantom of the Opera again. Plus it's one of the very best musicals!

I ended up being lucky and actually got a ticket for Peter's very first performance as the Phantom! I didn't realize until later that there were a lot of famous Swedish people and press there! For me, Peter Jöback was probably not an obvious choice as the Phantom - but he was perfect! Wonderful voice and amazing acting! He made the character creepy but it was still possible to like him. Except a minor incident where he nearly tripped over his boat (great save though!) everything was perfect! Would love to see him again, but sadly he will only be playing the part for 6 months. Killian Donnelly as Raoul was also amazingly great! A bit tougher than the way Raoul is usally played, which worked nicely! And of course it was a treat to get to see Gareth Snook, who stole basically every scene he was in! Very funny, and also a wonderful voice!

The Phantom of the Opera is a truely magical musical and this production was pretty much perfect! I loved it! Lots of talents in it, cool effects, beautiful music (love the overture!), and a fascinating story.
