*** NEWS *** My Fair Lady:Niklas will play the part of Freddie in My Fair Lady (Göteborgsoperan/The Gothenburg Opera House). It premieres in October 2007.
Niklas Andersson was born in Bollebygd, Sweden, in 1974. Already at age 9 he had decided he wanted a career on stage, after performing a Christmas song for his class. While many kids have the same kind of dream, Niklas made sure his dream came through! He attended the Bjärnum Musicaltheatre School for a year (1992-1993), and then went on to the 3-year-long Musicalperformer education at the Gothenburg Ballet Academy (graduated in 1996).
In 1996, Niklas made his professional debut, when he got a role in the ensemble of Miss Saigon in Copenhagen. In January 1997 Niklas got the part of Tony at the Malmö production of West Side Story. Even though he only had 10 days to learn the part, he received great reviews! (He was able to get permission to end his 1-year-contract with Miss Saigon after only 6 months, but he had to find a replacement AND train him). When he heard Miss Saigon was going to be played in Stockholm (1998), Niklas again went to audition. This time he got to play one of the main characters - Chris!
In February 1999 Niklas took over the part of Robert in the Swedish musical Kristina från Duvemåla (=Kristina from Duvemåla) in Stockholm, and played the part until July.
In 1999, Niklas made his West End debut, playing the part of Chris in Miss Saigon (starting out as first alternate). Sir Cameron Mackintosh has said that Niklas is one of his favourite Chris! In April 2000, Niklas moved on to another West End lead - Marius in Les Misérables! He continued to play the part until June 2001. Niklas again played Chris in the UK tour (2001-2002) of Miss Saigon. In April-October 2003 it was time for Niklas’ third West End lead - he played Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera.
After this Niklas decided it was time to go back home to Sweden. He has since then appeared on TV a number of times, been in the Swedish tryouts to the Eurovision song Contest of 2004 (he was also in the 2002 tryouts), released the single Movin’ (2006), done a children’s CD (“Lisebergskaninerna på nya äventyr, 2005), done Christmas concerts (as well as performed a few songs on Christmas CD), and many other concerts. Niklas has also released a CD of musical hits (Från Broadway till Duvemåla, 1997), together with other former and current students of the Musicalperformer Education at the Gothenburg Ballet Academy. In 1998 Niklas did the voice of Garrett in the animated movie Quest of Camelot.
In 2005-2006 Niklas has performed with Kjerstin Dellert in “Evergreens”. In the fall of 2006, Niklas decided to go back to the musical theatre world - and starred as Munkustrap in the Gothenburg Operahouse production of Cats, which will continue until Februrary 2007. During the summer of 2007 Niklas will be part of the "Diggiloo" tour as well as again perform with Kjerstin Dellert in "Evergreens".
